UCSB Financial Aid

UCSB Financial Aid

Do you need a better understanding of the UCSB financial aid that is available? Going to UCSB (University of California Santa Barbara) is not only an educational experience but a fun experience as well. If money is tight, which it is for many today, obtaining financial aid is a must.

If you haven't begun to apply for financial aid, then you may not be aware of the numerous options available to you. To make things as simple as possible, contacting the UCSB financial aid office for assistance will help you get you started on the right track. Speaking with someone who is very knowledgeable with what aid is available is very helpful.

You can either visit their office, you can call them, or you can e-mail them. This department actually has a number of different locations and the particular service you might need will depend upon the location you need to visit. You can call the main phone number of (805)893-2432 if you have any questions to start your quest with.

As with the beginning of any new journey, it is helpful to do some research before you head out. When you begin searching for financial aid, keep in mind there are options. If you review the "Types of Aid" page at the UCSB website, you will find 10 different types of aid that you could apply for. You can choose to apply for a student loan, you could apply for a Cal Grant (or other grants such as a Pell grant), scholarships, or perhaps a work study program.

Each option for UCSB financial aid will have its own restrictions and guidelines. Not everyone will qualify but it certainly doesn't hurt to review what is available. If you believe that you could qualify, but are not sure you could ask or simply apply.

For example, Cal Grants which is administered by the CSAC (California Student Aid Commission) has specific criteria such as the applicant must demonstrate their financial need and the applicant's income/assets must not exceed the ceilings that are established by the CSAC. There are 2 types of Cal Grants so even if you don't qualify for one; you could qualify for the other.

In regards to the loans that a student can apply for to obtain UCSB financial aid, there are at least 5 different types like the Federal Perkins loan and the Graduate PLUS loan. The Federal Perkins loan is awarded to those individuals, specifically undergraduate students, who are deemed "on-time" FAFSA applicants and also demonstrate a sufficient need for financial assistance.

For graduate students, there is an option called extramural funding that can be considered. This is a unique option in which the student can apply for what's called extramural fellowships. These connections are beneficial to professional training. The school offers e-mails, links and a number of directories to various sources to the graduate in the Davidson Library.

If you have decided to attend college, it is best not to wait too long before applying to any of the financial aid options available. School can become quite expensive and obtaining UCSB financial aid is a must.
